A.G. Rhodes is one of Atlanta’s oldest nonprofits and has set the standard for serving an aging community since 1904. Our three locations in Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton counties provides services in long-term care, short-term recovery and therapy & rehabilitation services and takes a holistic approach to caring for residents’ physical, social, mental and health needs.

Aniksha Love In Action

“The Masuku Tree” from Zambia

Giving Hope to Children with Cerebral Palsy and Brain Injury

Appropriate Paper Technology (APTERS) is a non-profit organization run by individuals with disabilities and based in Lusaka, Zambia. This organization was set up in 1990 to produce mobility rehabilitation aids with recycled materials like local newspapers and cardboard to assist physically challenged children with disabilities while empowering physically challenged adults. Aniksha Love in Action is a US based nonprofit that raises money for APTERS in Zambia.

Down 7 Up 8 Incorporated has provided short to medium-term housing for over 225 children during the last 9 years, including 6 separate sets of siblings for 2 or more years.  Our mission is to design, curate, and execute enrichment/outreach programs and community involvements to enhance the lives of fostered, adopted, and children in need.

Ferst Readers' mission is "strengthening communities by providing quality books and literacy resources for children and their families to use at home during the earliest stages of development."   Our vision is "to create better learners, brighter futures, and stronger communities by giving every child under five access to quality books in their homes."

How to support Ferst Readers

With over 74,000 children under the age of 5 years in Cobb County, we are ALWAYS looking to add more volunteers to our team! Plus, you can support one of these precious children with a new, age-appropriate book and a newsletter that equips their parents to get the most out of each reading experience by donating $36/ year per child--it is the power to change our community one reader at a time!

The Georgia Department of Veterans Service (GDVS) is an agency of state government created for the purpose of advising, counseling, and assisting Georgia’s veterans and their families in receiving their rightful benefits under the vast and complex framework of veterans’ laws.
GDVS joined the Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans and their Families (SMVF) in 2020 with the support of Gov. Brian Kemp. He signed HB 414 on April 25, 2023 creating the Veterans Mental Health Services Program, which is a grant program to improve access to mental health services for military service members, veterans, and their families in the state of Georgia.

KIDS CARE is now in its 4th year of being a service learning nonprofit. Their mission is to create youth community service experiences, encourage Kindness and raise awareness about the environment.

They offer monthly volunteer opportunities for ALL AGES. Most of volunteer experiences stem from the kid's ideas on how and who they want to serve.  All volunteer experiences are also used as service learning opportunities to discuss empathy, compassion, kindness, awareness of the needs of others and many more learning topics.  Thank you Premier Martial Arts Marietta for the Sponsorship!

Since December 1983, Lekotek of Georgia has provided program services to more than 7,000 families. Lekotek serves children with a wide range of disabilities including, but not limited to, attention deficit disorders, speech delays, cognitive delays, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hearing and/or vision loss, mitochondrial disorder, other neuromuscular disorders, and spina bifida.

Papayago Rescue House, Inc.

"Papayago Parrots are coming to town"

The mission of Papayago Rescue House is to support the well-being and maintenance of parrots in our community through rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. They provide mentoring, training, and support to parrot owners, promoting successful family bonding and decreasing surrenders. We provide a rescue environment specifically adapted for parrots, decreasing the need for birds to be placed at facilities not equipped to handle bird requirements and behavior. Our work with birds and bird owners helps us to decrease the problems of parrot homelessness, abuse, or neglect as well through minimizing the release of unwanted parrots into the local environment, with their unknown impact on native birds and habitats, reducing the economic impact of these birds on local government entities.

Pounce de Leon Cat Rescue

"Finding A Home Fur Christmas"

Pounce a is foster-based cat rescue and operates primarily in Northwest Georgia.  Pounce works with a network of volunteers, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, and other shelters to rescue homeless and displaced pets and provide them with protection, nourishment, and life-saving medical care (medications/treatments/ vaccinations) until they can be placed into their permanent homes. Pounce also serves as a resource to the community by providing education on pet ownership/care as well as resources and encouragement for spay/neuter activities to support the prevention of pet overpopulation.

Sweetwater Mission

"The Community Tree"

Sweetwater Mission works to stabilize families by preventing hunger and homelessness while transforming lives through education and employment opportunities since 1968.  Programs include year-round food distribution, children's summer food, and residential rental assistance. Needed support includes volunteers, monetary and food donations.

How to support Sweetwater Mission

Sweetwater Mission needs volunteers and cash donations to assist with special projects like our "Let's Talk Turkeys".  This project provides a holiday meal with turkey, sides, and all the trimmings for Thanksgiving and Christmas each year.
